Music Theory

Music theory is very important for students to be able to fully understand what they're playing and why it sounds good (or not!), for this reason, I include bits and pieces of theory to help develop well-rounded musicians who not only know what they're doing but are fully confident in explaining it to others when necessary.

I do offer Music Theory lessons which are immensely useful for composers, those wishing to improvise or take a deep dive into particular styles of music (while my expertise is Jazz and Contemporary music).

Throughout these lessons, students will:

  • Develop important analytical skills.

  • Learn to recognise important concepts.

  • Look at what makes particular genres unique.

  • Develop aural and transcription skills.

  • Learn how to interpret a variety of written music.

  • Learn how to and when it's ok to break the rules you've just spent learning.

  • Learn how to apply theory to their playing, composing & arranging.

  • Experiment with arranging and composition in various styles.

  • Develop the necessary skills to notate music so that other musicians can play it effectively and efficiently.
